Men Beyond War
Chico Rei was an enslaved Congolese king who freed himself and his subjects in the 17th century in the Brazilian mining town Ouro Preto. His story is the starting point to explore the diverse echoes of Brazilian slavery in the lives of black people today, understanding their movement of self-affirmation and freedom from a collective perspective, that focuses on the positiveness of their past to find hope and force for the future.
